Kaibara Ekiken
(17 dic. 1630, Fukuoka, Japón–5 oct. 1714, Japón).

Filósofo, relator de viajes y botánico pionero japonés. Médico que dejó de ejercer en 1657 para estudiar los escritos neoconfucianos de Zhu Xi. Escribió cerca de 100 obras filosóficas, en las que resaltó la naturaleza jerárquica de la sociedad y tradujo la doctrina confuciana en términos comprensibles para los japoneses de todas las clases sociales. Sus escritos incluyen La gran sabiduría para mujeres, un opúsculo sobre la obediencia reconocido desde hace tiempo como el texto ético más importante para la mujer japonesa. Es considerado el padre de la botánica en Japón.
